In biofloc technology, microorganism living inside the water is a crucial aspect to monitor. The microorganism will influence the settling characteristic of your solid which means better settling characteristics, ease the solid removal. Solid removal should be done frequently in biofloc, to avoid low dissolved oxygen. Few microorganisms help to improve settling characteristics and the system. In other words, the presence of these microorganisms indicates that your biofloc is in a preferable condition. Some studies reported that microbial community in biofloc significantly improves weight gain and feed conversion ratio (FCR) of the shrimp (Brito et al., 2016).
